- 6000 times more potent than the better-known Vitamin C.
Astaxanthin is a very potent natural antioxidant found in several living organisms. It is mainly produced by the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis to protect its cells from the sun and UV radiation. This orange pigment, a carotenoid belonging to the xanthophylls class, is present in fish such as salmon and crustaceans due to their diet of zooplankton, an organism that accumulates it through feeding. As a matter of fact, zooplankton feed on this microalgae, which is responsible for the characteristic colour of orange-red fish. There are also other natural sources of astaxanthin, such as yeast and crustacean by-products (such as the well-known Antarctic Krill), but microalgae is the most effective and richest source of this antioxidant.
Astaxanthin is also the molecule that protects salmon from oxidative stress as they make their way upstream to reproduce: this oxidative stress is similar to that which occurs in people who exercise, especially at high intensity and high frequency. Counteracting the formation of free radicals and oxidative stress is therefore also crucial for sportsmen and women and athletes.
Today, Astaxanthin is the most powerful antioxidant molecule nature has to offer. Comparative studies have shown that the antioxidant potency of this carotenoid is 6,000 times greater than that of the well-known vitamin C, 100 times greater than that of vitamin E and 5 times greater even than that of beta-carotene: it is therefore one of the most effective natural substances for neutralising reactive oxygen species.
AstaZine® Astaxanthin is produced using the Certified and 100% natural starting material: Astaxanthin obtained by synthetic processes is not as effective as natural Astaxanthin and can cause some discomfort after intake. Natural Astaxanthin, on the other hand, like that in AstaZine®, is derived entirely from microalgae, has no contraindications, contains no iodine and is highly bioavailable. The effectiveness of AstaZine® has been assessed in over 50 studies on humans (with over 1400 participants) and found to be effective, safe and well-tolerated.
What are the actual health benefits of AstaZine® Astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin brings diverse benefits: its potent antioxidant activity protects all epithelia in the body, stimulates skin cells to produce more collagen and consequently improves wrinkle depth. It also improves the photosensitivity of the skin and prevents UV damage (a very useful quality in summer to protect us from sunburn) and skin hydration and elasticity.
It is also useful for all athletes, because intense and prolonged physical exercise leads to increased production of free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS), from which we should protect ourselves.
**What sets AstaZine® Astaxanthin apart from other sources of Astaxanthin on the market?
AstaZine® is of natural origin, contains no iodine and is highly bioavailable: it is the most researched and certified version of Astaxanthin worldwide, and uses a safe and effective microalgae culture, extraction and purification process for its production.
DIRECTION (1 serving = 1 capsule)
Take one capsule a day with water.
As with all antioxidants, our advice is to take them preferably in the morning after waking up, with breakfast. Although there is no ideal time for taking Astaxanthin, it is best to avoid taking it at the end of an intensive workout: although free radicals are generated during training, it is best to counteract them a few hours after the end of the training session. This makes it possible to combat ROS while enjoying the positive adaptations brought about by exercise.
