Glucosamine (C6H13NO5) is an organic compound. Glucosamine is a natural constituent of cartilage tissue. It is not commonly found in everyday foods. Glucosamine in supplements is extracted from the shells of seashells.
Chondroitin is a major constituent of cartilage and is characterised by its excellent water-binding capacity. It is mainly recommended for athletes, the elderly and people doing heavy physical work.
MSM, methyl-sulphonyl-methane, sounds like the name of a synthetic compound, but it is a naturally occurring compound containing sulphur in an organic bond, found in the human diet and in the diets of all vertebrates and present in all living organisms. The richest source of organic sulphur is breast milk. The second richest source is rainwater (from where it enters the food chain). But there is also some organic sulphur in meat, eggs, seaweed, seaweed and algae.
Why and when to supplement?
Normally, people with a healthy and balanced diet would not be deficient in sulphur. But our diets have changed significantly over the last few hundred years. Unfortunately, most people nowadays hardly eat any fresh vegetables, so they don't get enough. The sulphur content of processed foods is almost zero. Processing, preserving, cooking and baking food destroys the organic sulphur compounds in it. But the human body needs it, because organic sulphur works together with vitamins and amino acids.
Where is it found in the body?
MSM is an important component in the human body. It is present in almost all our cells. It is most concentrated in our skin, hair, nails, bones, muscles and joints. So if you want to replenish it, you should eat as many of the raw vegetables listed above as possible. If you can't do this, you have the option of supplementing. The three substances above should be consumed together.
What makes this product special is that it contains rosehip in addition to the usual ingredients. Rosehip is one of the best sources of vitamin C in nature.
