Why is pomegranate concentrate fortified with organic selenium?
Selenium is an essential part of the body's functioning, a trace antioxidant. However, in Europe, soil selenium levels are very low and it is a common problem in many European countries that people do not have adequate selenium levels.
Selenium is involved in the body's antioxidant defence system, which inhibits the damaging effects of free radicals on DNA molecules. It is a builder of two enzymes (glutathione reductase and tiredoxin reductase) that protect against toxins entering the body from the environment and from food. Selenium is essential for normal immune and thyroid function. It protects cells against oxidative stress.
What is oxidative stress? For our body to function in a balanced way, it needs a proper distribution of antioxidants and free radicals. A shift in either direction is not beneficial to physiological processes, but without replenishment of antioxidants from external sources, free radicals can become predominant due to the negative environmental effects we are exposed to. This condition is called oxidative stress. Antioxidants are designed to bind free radicals, preventing their damaging effects on cells and the development of oxidative stress.
DIRECTION (1 serving = 20 ml)
20 ml daily (equivalent to 2 tablespoons), preferably in the morning on an empty stomach, taken alone or with about 2 dl of water. Shake before use.
