Fish oil with high EPA and DHA content in soft gelatine capsules
Our OMEGA-3 FISH OIL formulation contains only 100% pure fish oil from marine harvested fish. It is produced in a strict quality control environment, tested for known contaminants. Each soft-gel capsule is high in EPA and DHA, which are important nutrients for the human body.
What do you need to know about unsaturated fatty acids, DHA and EPA?
Unsaturated fatty acids, such as Omega-3 fatty acids, play an essential role in the physiological processes of the human body. In fact, few nutrients have been studied as thoroughly as Omega-3 fatty acids. They cannot be produced by the body and must be obtained from outside the diet or through dietary supplements.
Natural sources of Omega-3 fatty acids:
- Fatty marine fish such as salmon, mackerel, cod, herring and sardines
- Flaxseed
- Mush meat of grass-fed beef
- Eggs
- Chia seeds
The best-known Omega-3 fatty acids are ALA, DHA and EPA. These fatty acids cannot be produced by the body, so it is important to replace them with the right diet and supplements. ALA essential fatty acid can be converted by the body to EPA and then DHA fatty acid in the liver, but the rate of this conversion is quite limited. The conversion rate is only 15%, so it is important to replenish our EPA and DHA fatty acid stores regularly.
DHA helps to maintain normal brain function and vision, which can be achieved with a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA. EPA and DHA contribute to the proper functioning of the heart. These beneficial effects can be achieved with a daily intake of 250 mg of EPA and DHA, provided by a single capsule of OMEGA 3 FISH OIL.
The daily dose (1 capsule) contains 1200 mg of fish oil, of which 720 mg are Omega-3 fatty acids: EPA 432 mg and DHA 288 mg.
There are several fatty acids belonging to the Omega-3 family, the most important of which are: - alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
- Alpha-alpha-alpha-oleic acid (ALA)
- docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
The body's DHA levels are particularly high in the cells of the eye, brain and sperm. EPA fatty acid also has a number of essential functions.
The critical Omega-3 to Omega-6 fatty acid ratio
The Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio is of great importance to experts within the types of essential fatty acids. The ideal ratio is 1:1 to 1:3, however, the poor dietary habits of the civilised world today contain an average ratio of 1:10 to 1:30 of these two types of fatty acids. Too high a proportion of Omega 6 fatty acids in the body is not ideal and it is important to pay particular attention to balancing it properly. To restore the correct ratio, a diet rich in Omega-3 fats is recommended by nutritionists.
What contains Omega-6 fatty acids and what should we avoid excessive intake of?
- Margarine
- Hydrogenated vegetable oils such as rapeseed oil, cooking oil
What is the ideal Omega-3 intake?
General health organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recommend a daily intake of 250-500 mg of combined EPA and DHA for healthy adults.(1, 2 ,3) The American Heart Association recommends eating fatty fish at least twice a week to ensure optimal Omega-3 intake (4)
As for nutrition, more is not always better. As with many nutrients, there is an upper limit to how much you should take in. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a combination of 2,000 mg per day of EPA and DHA is safe from supplements. In high doses, Omega-3 has a blood-thinning effect. Talk to your doctor if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood-thinning medications.
