Our product contains, in its natural form, only the shell-less, lyophilised (freeze-dried) form of New Zealand green mussels, without added additives. New Zealand green mussels are rich in glucosaminoglycans (GAGs). These organic compounds are powerful anti-inflammatory agents, initiate the production of new cartilage, protect existing cartilage, restore joint fluid to the joints and increase bone density. The product is also recommended for dogs and cats!

History of the green mussel P. Canaliculus
Interest in the potentially beneficial physiological effects of green mussels began in the early 1970s, when it was observed that indigenous Maori living off the coast of New Zealand had a lower incidence of arthritis than those living inland. Today, green mussel extracts are also being studied for other inflammatory conditions, notably asthma and inflammatory bowel disease.
New Zealand freeze-dried (stabilised) green mussels
The joints are nourished by the so-called synovial fluid and the joint surfaces slide over each other with the help of this lubricating fluid. This fluid is made up of glucosaminoglycans and is the guarantee of our flexibility of movement.
The glucosaminoglycans in the green shell feed the synovial fluid, the main constituent of cartilage and the synovial fluid in the joint. The severity of arthritis is directly related to the loss of GAG content in the joint and surrounding cartilage.
NATUR TANYA CONTAINS ORGANIC GREEN MUSSELS, ADDITIVE-FREE FREEZE-DRIED GREEN-LIPPED MUSSEL EXTRACT (PERNA CANALICULUS). THE GREEN-LIPPED MUSSELS ARE FREEZE-DRIED AT CONTROLLED LOW TEMPERATURES, WHICH RESULTS IN A HIGH ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECT.
What can green mussels be used for in dogs and cats?
Green mussels can be useful for dogs and cats who suffer from any disease that causes long-term inflammation in the body. These include skin conditions and asthma, but perhaps the most common is arthritis.
What is the relationship between glucosamine, chondroitin sulphate and GAGs?
Glucosamine is an amino acid that the body produces and then converts into GAGs (e.g. hyaluronic acid, chondroitin sulphate, keratan sulphate) to use in the building of joint cartilage. Chondroitin is a glucosaminoglycan (GAG) in cartilage.
Therefore, when we consume GAG-rich green mussels, we give the "building blocks" of cartilage a boost to improve the condition of joint cartilage and skeleton. As glucosamine and GAGs are essential building blocks of cartilage and bone, the active ingredients synergistically reinforce each other.
GAGs are able to bind large amounts of water, making cartilage tissue flexible and elastic. They contribute to the viscosity of joints, stimulate cartilage regeneration and inhibit the enzymes responsible for cartilage degradation. They can therefore reduce the pain associated with cartilage degradation and improve joint mobility.
What else can help with musculoskeletal complaints?
1. INCREASE THE PROBIOTICS IN THE GUT FLORA
Compared to healthy people, patients with chronic inflammatory diseases, in particular rheumatoid arthritis (RA), have an altered gut microbiota, known as dysbiosis. This is associated with a reduced amount of beneficial gut bacteria and increased numbers of pathogenic bacteria and fungi, which confuses immune responses, is associated with the appearance of autoimmune complaints and makes healing processes impossible. Since the amount and types of gut bacteria are unique to each individual, like a fingerprint, prebiotics are needed to colonise probiotics. The probiotics feed on prebiotics and thrive in the gut flora in species-specific amounts for the individual.
2. REPLENISHING MINERAL STORES
Mineral deficiency is a huge public health problem, low levels are associated with inflammation and cause the body to make up the shortfall from bone, connective tissue and hair scalp. The amount of minerals available in our food supply has been significantly reduced over the last 60-80 years due to mass production. Because minerals are also necessary for enzyme reactions and the synthesis of vitamins, they can cause a wide range of symptoms and diseases.
3. BASIC VITAMINS
Vitamins D and C alone affect the health of cartilage, gums and bones and are involved in almost all biochemical processes in our bodies. Increasing vitamin C and D levels is an essential step in any inflammatory process. Vitamin D helps to improve immune responses. Vitamin C also increases the absorption of nutrients, including, of course, glucosaminoglycans.
4. EPA AND DHA FATTY ACIDS
In addition to prebiotics, Omega 3 fatty acids increase the number of beneficial bacteria. Recent research has shown that Omega fatty acids interact and communicate with the microbiome in the intestinal tract, enriching the microbial species associated with SCFA production (especially butyrate), which is associated with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and immunomodulatory effects. Omega 3 fatty acids, due to their powerful natural anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, help to support proper immune responses and complementary treatment of all types of inflammatory conditions and play a role in reducing inflammation and pain in both bones and joints, as well as helping to increase calcium content in bones and improve bone density (best taken at night before bedtime).
