OLEUROPEIN AND BLOOD PRESSURE

• A twice-daily dose of 500 mg of oleuropein extract (Olea europaea L.) was effective in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with grade I hypertension. The antihypertensive effect of the extract was similar to that of intravenous captopril at a dose of 12.5-25 mg . The study also showed that olive leaf extract was safe and tolerated orally at a dose of 500 mg twice daily. In addition, the extract was found to have a beneficial effect on the lipid profile, with a reduction in total cholesterol and LDL and triglyceride concentrations.
