Why do you need amino acids, including BCAAs?

Proteins are important components of living cells and amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Some of them can be produced by the body itself (non-essential amino acids), while the other group (essential amino acids) must be supplied from an external source in the diet. Among the essential amino acids, there is a separate category of BCAA, or branched-chain amino acids. There are three amino acids in total: L-leucine, L-isoleucine and L-valine.
